From Panic to Profit: Surviving April’s Tariff Crash with a May Comeback

What Trump Taught Us About Staying Calm, Thinking Long-Term, and Playing to Win

**********************************************************************************************

Hi SM Cafe Community☕,

Let me take you back to 3-9 April 2025—the days tariffs slammed the market.
I opened my brokerage app and bam—AMZN, GOOG, META, TSLA, PLTR … …, even the mighty NVDA … all deep in the red. 💥

But instead of panic selling, I closed the app, made a coffee, and reminded myself:
“I own great companies. Volatility is the price of admission.”

Here’s how I managed not just to survive, but thrive:

💼 My Portfolio Moves

💎 Held My Core Positions
I didn’t touch my long-term plays: ✔️ NVDA ✔️ META ✔️ GOOG ✔️ TSLA ✔️ PLTR ✔️ AMZN✔️ UPST
They’re not hype—they’re high-conviction.

📉 No Panic Selling
Selling in fear locks in loss? I did the opposite—stayed calm and held tight.

📈 Dollar Cost Averaged In
As my favorite stocks continued to decline, I picked up more shares, especially of PLTR and NVDA, and my average cost improved.

💰 Rolled My Sell Puts
Instead of closing Sell Put Options in losing positions at bad timing, I rolled them down to a later date-to-expire (DTE), pocketing extra premiums while giving stocks more time to rebound.

📦 Executed Covered Calls
As stocks slid during the downturn, I sold covered calls to cushion the impact, collecting premium income while waiting patiently for the eventual rebound.

🧠 What I Learned (Again)

  • Markets test your mindset more than your math.

  • Long-term investors don’t flinch at short-term noise.

  • Options give you flexibility—but only if you stay rational.

And here is my portfolio performance, 9 May 2025 - recovery in full swing.

IBKR Portfolio Performance

My portfolio is back in green (within one month), and some trades even outperformed expectations.
